LAS VEGAS--Although hardware took the spotlight at CES 2011, there was plenty to see on the software and service side as well, particularly in conjunction with said hardware. For one, the vast majority of the latest and greatest TVs at the show were Internet-capable devices with some type of app integration.

Another hot topic from the show: Honeycomb, the upcoming Android OS designed specifically for tablets. The OS features refined multitasking, richer and more interactive widgets, and a 3D user experience with unique home screen customization options.

Several online services made appearances as well, particularly those that focus on multimedia. Unifi from RealNetworks took home our Best of CES category award in software and apps for its innovative approach to collecting all your media from across various services and devices and presenting it in a simple, unified interface.

Check out all the software news from CES 2011.

Happy New Year! Hopefully you all had a joyous and relaxing holiday season. Just as we are at CNET Downloads, I'm sure you are all back into the all-consuming work and task at hand. For our team, we did not have a minute to rest from the holidays as we all jetted off to Las Vegas for CES 2011 and Affiliate Summit West. I got to see many of you at CES and Catherine saw many more at Affiliate Summit West. We had great meetings and as always, listened and learned, taking many action items back with us to San Francisco. Read on below for a CES recap from one of our Download.com editors, Jasmine France. Catherine also shares with us her experience at Affiliate Summit West.

We are dusting off an old tradition at CNET Downloads! This year, we honored 20 publishers, 10 in Mac and 10 in Windows, as the Top 10 Download of 2010. Read below to find out more about the award and the winners. Congratulations to all our winners!

Finally, we got great response from publishers looking to sell on Download.com. Would sure love to have more of you join the program.

All the best,

Affiliate Summit West 2011 overview

Las Vegas, indeed the city that never sleeps, never fails to disappoint and Affiliate Summit West was not an exception either. Jam-packed with some of the smartest affiliate marketers in the industry, Affiliate Summit West 2011 took place at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas from January 9 -- 11, 2011 and held its ground as one of the more successful affiliate marketing conferences in the area.

This three day conference was filled with affiliate merchants, vendors and endless number of affiliate networks I've never heard of. I had no idea there were so many! Personally, I found all the 1:1 meetings to be much more helpful and a better use of my time, but walking the Exhibit floor definitely helped me see that there were a lot of great opportunities in the affiliate marketing business. Some of the keynote speakers shared their expertise on blogging your way into growing affiliate revenue as well as best practices on how to utilize social media and datafeeds for maximum exposure and conversion. There were some sessions centered around mobile, but not as much as I would've liked to see, especially with this growing trend on consumer dependencies on their mobile devices and tablet PCs.

All in all, the conference brought a huge number of software publishers and marketers from around the world -- some even traveled over 25 hours on the plane! Although four days in Las Vegas is just one too many days for me, it made it all worthwhile for me to meet the publishers face to face and discuss some of the exciting new programs we are working on at CNET Downloads. As I've shared with the partners at ASW2011- Spamfighter, Malwarebytes, AVG, Magix, BootStrap Development, Wondershare, Webroot, Whitesmoke, Serif, WinRAR, Panda Security, DivX, Reviversoft - to name a few, we'll be working on helping you better understand your user base and taking our partnership to the next level.

One of the programs we just launched is the CNET Downloads Marketplace and coming soon is a better reporting tool to help you optimize your product performance. Please read below to find out more and as always, here are some conference pictures I took to share with you all, just in case you missed out. The next Affiliate Summit takes you back to the east coast, New York City, from Aug 21 -- 23, so get your passes early and we'll see you there!

Here are some photos from the event. Enjoy!
