Dear CNET members,
Happy Friday! Just a quick announcement for all you Android fans, owners, or potential Android product owners. We opened up a brand-new Android forum on CNET for you to talk shop about anything relating to Android products. So if you have product questions, troubleshooting needs, buying advice, or just simply want to discuss news and topics on the Android platform with your fellow members, swing on by. Now let's tackle Robert's question, to see if we can figure out why his Windows 7 system wakes up from hibernation and then after a period of time goes blank--no mouse, no background, and seems to have gone back into hibernation again; it won't wake up without a cold reboot.
I've heard of many systems not waking up from hibernation, but in your case, Robert, where the system goes back into a hibernation-like state after a few minutes coming out of hibernation is quite odd. If hibernation is causing this issue, many of our members have suggested to simply disable hibernation mode in Windows all together as a solution, but that doesn't really cover why it is happening. Unfortunately as you read through our member suggestions, you'll quickly come to realize, hibernation issues as described by members can range from a variety of culprits from, BIOS needing updating, the way you upgraded to Windows 7, to video drivers being a culprit. One member, DTavona, even mentioned that it may not be related to hibernation at all, as it is a known issue from the manufacture with the laptop's BIOS.
In all, a lot of knowledge was shared, and hopefully there are some things you can perform to successfully address the issue. But if things get a bit too risky or involved to attempt, as much as I hate to say it, if you can live without the hibernation mode, the simple solution would be to disable it altogether. A reminder: whichever route you take, back up your data, just in case.
Good luck, Robert, and if you get a chance, please--and I mean please--tell us how things worked out. Thank you, everyone, for helping Robert out; I know there isn't always a single solution, but the best we can do share all we know to come up with a solution that may work. Take care, everyone. Have a great weekend! Cheers! - Lee
