An executive from the largest U.S. wireless operator is skeptical about Microsoft's chances of becoming the "third" major player in the mobile OS wars, even with its latest partnership with Nokia.
Publishers can set the price and length of subscriptions. Payment processing will be handled by Apple, which will get 30 percent of the revenue for new subscribers.
Executives of parent company Deutsche Telekom say the company will enable mobile payments with NFC chip-equipped phones in some countries this year, and in the U.S. next year.
Mobile operators and some handset makers launch the Wholesale Applications Community, an attempt to bypass Google and Apple with cross-platform Web apps.
Rumors are swirling about an "iPhone Nano," or a smaller, cheaper iPhone that Apple is readying. Trying to imagine how the iPhone could be smaller or more lightly featured and still worth buying is difficult.
After denying early reports, HTC and Facebook reveal two Android smartphones, the HTC ChaCha and Salsa, built around the popular social networking site.
As expected, Google plans to ask the public for help in identifying sites pumping out huge volumes of low-quality content, otherwise known as content farms.
