Chevy Volt on the road
After last year's short rides in the Chevy Volt with a GM minder in the back seat, we got one in at the office for some real testing. After driving it past its electric range, that gas engine kicked in, and the car tackled steep hills and freeway speeds alike with no problems. We drove the Volt through a few battery recharge cycles and also dug into the cabin tech. In just about every area it earned a thumbs up.

But we, and many car reviewers, only got the Volt for about a week. Check out the user reviews of the Chevy Volt on CNET. These owners have been driving it for months now, with some hitting over 1,000 miles. All report complete satisfaction, often with fuel economy ranging above 100 mpg.

Comment of the week: The Smart Electric Drive costs how much?!
Calm down guys, it's a limited production specialty vehicle and it's very expensive until it moves into regular production. Only the Volt, Leaf, and upcoming Focus Electric are full production cars at this time. I'm not a fan of electric as it wouldn't meet my long distance commuting needs, but I applaud any manufacturer willing to try new things and see what works and what doesn't.  Read full quote
