Two separate companies that made a business out of offering AT&T iPhone 4 owners a way to unlock their phones to work on other carriers have closed up shop within days of each other.

Developers rush out apps that let iPhone users delete unwanted location data from their devices, but the apps only work on phones that have been jailbroken.

In this week's column, a roundup of the latest rumors on the much-anticipated iPhone 5 and some perspective on recent privacy concerns related to the iPhone.

This week, Apple's smartphone proved pivotal in helping the company and its partner carriers attain strong quarterly earnings, but was also the target of criticism for keeping a log of its users' whereabouts.
Some Sprint users have been able to get Google Voice integration for weeks.
