 | | Rise of the underdogs There are brands that consumers give the benefit of the doubt regardless of scandal, recall, or class action lawsuit. The controversy surrounding unintended acceleration in Toyotas isn't going to put too big of a dent in Camry sales and a recall from Volkswagen isn't going to stop buyers from looking at Jettas. Then, there are the brands that, no matter how well they do, can't seem to catch a break. For example, people seem surprised when we mention the Kia Optima's good initial quality and standard cabin technology, likely due to the brand's rough start in the 90s. Suzuki, on the other hand, has had to wildly style its Kizashi Sport SLS just to get people to take notice and even remember that it is an automaker. Both are surprisingly good vehicles. When considering the news surrounding the likes of Toyota and VW, perhaps these underdogs merit a second look.
